Author Guidelines

Dobl Benk welcomes unsolicited submissions, but please read back issues of the journal to familiarise yourself with the kinds of work we publish. Submissions must conform to our journal's genre requirements (Creative Non-Fiction, Poetry) or meet the section-specific genre and form conventions (Translations, Ekphrastic Poems, Review Essays, etc.).  The editors ask that you submit to these guidelines to prevent your spending energy on preparing a submission we are then unable to accept.

We accept submissions year-round, with rolling deadlines. Our next reading period, for Issue 2, closes on 20th November 2018.

While it is among our objectives to publish work by students of the University of Belize, submissions by local authors are strongly encouraged. International submissions are welcome though we do point out Dobl Benk's explicitly Belizean focus.

Other Criteria

Please only submit one piece at a time.
Submissions should be formatted as .DOC or .DOCX files.
Include in a note to the editor a very brief writer’s bio.

We are happy for you to submit your piece elsewhere, provided that you advise us immediately if your work becomes unavailable. All work should be previously unpublished; this includes self-publication.
Remove instances of your name anywhere in the body or file name of your document.
The editors endeavour to make determinations on acceptance within a month of submission deadlines. Please wait at least this long before contacting us for status updates. Any delays on our end should not be understood as disrespect but are merely indicative of our work load, and our desire to make the best decisions possible.
